Foundation for Jewish Camp, JWest Campership Program

Since 2008, the Foundation for Jewish Camp’s JWest Campership program has provided financial incentives to campers from the western United States to participate in a first-time Jewish summer camp experience of two to three weeks. The program also developed innovative, focused marketing and recruitment techniques with a long-term goal of increasing the number of campers and the retention rate. JWest campers attended 23 camps in the 13 western U.S. states in 2008 - 2011. (Western states include Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming).

As the JWest Campership program entered its fifth and final summer, a total of 3,342 first-time 6th - 8th grade campers had been introduced to Jewish overnight camp in the western region of North America with incentives.  More than 2,000 second-time campers returned to camp with a JWest incentive over the past four years, with 599 returning in 2012 alone.  An additional 132 third-time campers returned to camp in 2012 with a JWest incentive.
